Brad Pence - Chief Executive Officer and Chairman
Brad Pence is Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Keith Brown Building Materials. He brings more than 20 years in building materials sales and marketing, including over 10 years in senior management. He was born and raised in Salem where he attended South Salem High School. He attended Central Oregon College and later studied engineering at Oregon State University and accounting at College of the Desert. Beginning his career with Dale Pence Contractors, he later helped form Woodworking Specialties Company followed by Pence/Kelly Construction. Brad is the founding chairman of Willamette Valley Bank in Salem, Oregon and general partner of Hawaii Northwest Ventures, developers of Creekside Golf Course and surrounding 200-acre housing development. He served on the Board of Directors for 18 years of Steelco, Inc., as well as other organizations including Creekside Homeowners Association, Salem Economic Development Corporation (SEDCOR) and chairman of Central Area Neighborhood Association. He and his wife, Pam, have one child.

Mark Bechel - Chief Financial Officer

Mark joined Keith Brown in June of 2005.  He brings with him over 25 years of finance and accounting experience with Georgia Pacific Corporation, a Fortune 150 company.  Mark has managed treasury functions, accounting functions, mergers and acquisitions, information services, credit functions, inventory control, and transaction processing.  Most recently, Mark was with the building products distribution division of Georgia Pacific which is now known as BlueLinx Corporation.  BlueLinx is a significant supplier of product to Keith Brown Building Materials.  Mark has a Bachelors Degree in Economics from the University of Wisconsin and a MBA from the University of Phoenix .


Phil Cox - Vice President of Operations
Phil Cox has over 20 years in building materials management experience. He was born and raised in Bath, England and attended Brunel College in Bristol, United Kingdom where he studied business management and nautical studies. After four years of service with the British Merchant Navy, Phil immigrated to the United States in 1981 and made Oregon his home where he started his career in the building materials business. Later in 1986 he became a US citizen. Phil began his career in 1981 at the head office of Copeland Lumber Yards based in Portland, Oregon where he gained experience as operations manager and senior auditor. In 1997 he helped develop and implement Copeland’s automation system. In 1999 he was employed by Advantage Business Computers of Big Sandy, Texas where he implemented new software programs for various lumber companies throughout the United States and Canada. This position exposed him to many different styles of lumber yard operations all over the county. In 2001, Phil joined the management team of Keith Brown Building Materials in Salem, Oregon where he supervised conversion to the new Point of Sale accounting system still used today. Later in 2002, Phil joined the executive team as Vice President of Operations where he is responsible for all aspects of yard operations, including customer and vendor relationships, future development and growth.


Jim Tolleson - Vice President of Sales

Jim joined Keith Brown on December 1, 2005. He grew up in the building materials business and framed large custom homes during high school and college learning the mechanics of the home building industry. Since graduating from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Business Managment, he has spent 13 years of his career in direct sales in both the building materials and medical industries. Sales successes in both areas led to a partner/owner position of a medical distribution business along with various management positions in both building materials and willwork facilities. While at BMC West, he was promoted to an internal consultant position implenting "Best Practicies" at half of their locations. Jim comes to Keith Brown from Huttig Products as their regional sales manager for both the Portland and Medford distribution centers.

James Todd - Information Systems Manager

James brings to Keith Brown over 10 years experience in the IT/IS industry and 7 years of programming. James was born and raised in the Central Oregon area where he started in the computer field working for his father in the private timber industry providing technical support to staff. After high school, he held positions at Sole Source, Inc. and AccuMail, Inc. in I.S. management roles. Later he joined Central Telemessaging of Bend, OR as their I.S. Manager where he sucessfully migrated the company from a paper-based workflow to a custom programmed CRM/ERP model while integrating with a 3rd party accounting package. He moved to the Portland, OR area the winter of 2001 where he worked as a technical service engineer for NetIQ, Inc. James was then contracted in 2004 by Keith Brown to consult and complete a system migration project, where he was later hired permanently as their Information Systems Manager.
